“Darjeeling,
Gangtok & Kalimpong – East India” |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Description : |
|
| |
For many
years, Sikkim was regarded as one of the last Himalayan Shangri-las
because of its remoteness, spectacular mountain terrain, varied
flora and fauna and ancient Buddhist Monasteries. The capital
of Sikkim, Gangtok (means hilltop) sprawls down the west side
of a long ridge flanking the Ranipul River. The scenery is
spectacular and there are excellent views of the entire Kanchenjunga
Range from many points in the environs of the city. Though
relatively small Kalimpong is set among the rolling foothills
and deep valleys of the Himalaya. Kalimpongs attractions include
its peaceful ambience, three monasteries, lovely old churches
& fine views over the surrounded countryside. Straddling
a ridge at 2134m and surrounded by tea plantations, Darjeeling
is a fascinating place where you can see Buddhist monasteries,
visit a tea plantation, go for a ride on the chairlift, spend
days haunting for bargain in colorful markets and handicrafts
shops, or go trekking to high altitude spots. |
